First stop after checking in was to get some breakfast. We decided to go to the hotel restaurant to check it out. The decor was quaint and the chef was nice enough but I was not overly impressed with the food. They had Mickey waffles that I could eat, and they were good, but nothing special. I was highly disappointed with the amount of potatoes they gave us. For the price of $9 there was not a lot of food and it was all starch. I will definitely stick to breakfast at the Art of Animation.

One of the character breakfasts that e really like is at Animal Kingdom's Tusker House. The characters are dressed up in safari gear and spend a pretty good amount of time with you. Mickey loved my runDisney shirt at was excited when I told him I was going to run Dopey. The food was yummy. I had waffles, potatoes, plantains, and rice. This buffet is a bit pricey but I was stuffed afterwards.
After the Expedition Everest Challenge Family Edition, we all went to Sanaa at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. I love this restaurant! They had just changed the menu, and I wanted to check it out. I ordered a lot of food to give me fuel for the race that evening. For appetizer I ordered the Papadum Service with Red Chile Sambul, Coconut Chutney, and Roasted Red Pepper Hummus. For my second (!) appetizer I ordered Chana Spinach something. Chef Trish discovered I could also eat the Chana Tikka, so she brought that out for me to have as well (my third appetizer!). They were both pretty tasty, but I think I liked the spinach version a little better. For my meal I ordered the Vegetarian Combo with Chana Masala and Lentils. It was pretty hit and miss. The chana masala had potatoes in it, which threw me off a bit but wasn't a big deal. It did have a bunch of baby onion bulbs things in it, which was totally weird. I picked them all out, but they took up a lot of the bowl. The lentils were a bit al dente for me. Overall, I was not totally impressed with my entree. I liked the previous menu options better. Oh well. For dessert I got mango sorbet with fresh berries. It was very refreshing. By the end of the meal I was stuffed and satisfied. While we were waiting for our reservation we saw a couple of tortoises hanging out and eating lunch right outside the window!
I visited Disney's Art of Animation twice on this trip to get food. I absolutely love this hotel and the food court is great. Chef Allison helped me out both times. On Friday I got breakfast - waffles, red potatoes, and fruit. On Sunday I went for lunch and had a house-made veggie burger, fries, and BabyCakes mini-cupcakes. If you have allergies or any sort of dietary restriction - DO NOT EAT at the Rainforest Cafe!!!
We went to the Rainforest Cafe at Downtown Disney with my family because they had some free kid's entree coupons. What a disaster! I had called out the chef to see if there was anything that they could make me. They had nothing!!! They couldn't even make me a decent salad... I ended up with this nacho plate. As you can see, I got 13 chips, some guacamole, some pickled cucumbers (which I hate) and some pickled tomatoes (which I hate). And the entire dish was about $15. What a rip off! Never again.... This is a gluten-free, vegan stir-fry from Captain Cooks at the Polynesian Resort. It is a quick-service and they are pretty good with allergies. There is also a Dole Whip machine here!
Nathan and I decided to try out the Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge. We went for lunch and were pleasantly surprised at the gluten-free, vegan option in this primarily-meat establishment. We had the Red Quinoa cakes, which were pretty tasty and different from other options around property. We also ordered all-you-can-drink soy milkshakes. Nathan was more than a little bit excited about this! This was a pleasant dining experience, and I would like to eat here again.
The Sci-Fi Drive in as at Hollywood Studios. I was excited to try this restaurant because it seemed like a cool concept. When we were seated, we were in the back of the restaurant in a little car booth. It was very crowded with the two of us sitting there and we kept bumping elbows. It was very dark, to simulate a real drive-in, and it was hard to read the menu. The clips that they were showing were interesting, but we ended up being at the restaurant so long, that we ended up watching them on repeat. There was not much option for a gluten-free, vegan at the Sci-fi, so I had to settle for a pasta with vegetables. It was not at all impressive, as they didn't even have sauce to put on the pasta! I also ordered a soy milkshake and some sweet potato fries. I ended up getting sick after eating at the Sci-fi. I think that my sweet potato fries weren't cooked in the gluten-free fryer, and I felt sick for the next couple of days. Overall, I was not impressed with the Sci-fi Drive in, and will not be returning. The prices were high for the quality of food, there weren't many options for me, and they didn't pay close enough attention to my allergy request. Let me tell you - Chef TJ is WONDERFUL!!!!! We went to 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian our Christmas Celebration buffet. Chef TJ took us around and told us what we could eat that is gluten-free and vegan. This is what we could eat off of the buffet: Chef TJ then brought us out a multi-course, specially prepared meal. Here was our appetizer: a trio of salads. Our main course was absolutely delicious. It was chunks of tofu (that I let Nathan eat) with vegetables and crunchy rice noodles. This plate was huge! We shared, and still could barely finish the food. Now, for dessert, he made us each a tower of treats. Doesn't that look amazing!? Chef TJ was very accommodating, and very eager to make us a delicious meal. I HIGHLY recommend eating where ever he is a chef. I know he changes restaurants occasionally, so I can't guarantee it will always be 1900 Park Fare.
We ate at Coral Reef as part of the Candlelight Processional Package. The Chef made me a special vegetarian dish of rice and vegetables in a delicious sauce. The menu may not necessarily have a vegan dish, but usually the chef can make something pretty good out of ingredients that they have.
